Milano!

14 Febbraio 2019

Ciao a tutti!

We arrived weary and exhausted to Milano’s Malpensa airport at 10 am (2 am Utah time). Neither of us got much for sleep on the plane, but our excitement carried us through the day’s activities. The best remedy for jet lag and lack of sleep (and also the best way to get adjusted to the new time zone quickly) is to simply drop off our bags and walk around town. That is exactly what we did and we visited the Duomo, the Galleria (high-end shopping square), and Santa Maria delle Grazie (a beautiful church that holds Davinci’s Last Supper. The Last Supper was literally breathtaking as the magnitude of the painting’s size knocks the air out of your chest as soon as you turn the corner and your eyes connect with the masterpiece. It was truly a magnificent experience. We then had an hour to rest before getting ready and heading out for the evening.

We dined nearby on the local dish (risotto) and then walked through the Galleria in our fancy dress clothes before heading to La Scala for the symphony. In our more proper attire, we felt deserving to shop the fancier stores and took the opportunity to head into Prada. Jeremy was feeling generous and wanted me to pick out a bag, which I was more than happy to oblige. He was not sure of how much a Prada purse could cost and when the salesman informed him of the price (about 4 times more than what he had guessed), Jeremy quickly turned and walked away. I kindly thanked the saleman and we left the store soon thereafter. The whole affair having played out exactly how I expected it would.

Finally arriving at La Scala, we sat in awe of the theater’s interior while the crescendos and pianos of the symphony took us on a musical rollercoaster. Unfortunately, our eyelids were falling more often than rising and so we called it a night after the first movement.

We both awoke early this morning to take a final visit to the Duomo and are currently on an express train to hop around Verona before making our way to Venezia (Venice).

Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone! We are sending you all our love!!
