Notice I did not say "severe", because we are actually doing fine, we didn't need a doctor or hospital, were well-prepared for such an incident, and we really don't want anyone to worry. But such is so often the case when experiencing India.
It all started when our train to Varanasi was delayed for 6 hours and we were stuck at the Gaya train station. We ordered 2 samosas so that we could sit down at a table with chairs that were cooled by a fan as opposed to the hot, sweaty, dirty, fly-infested ground of the train platforms. We should have known better.
My (Tracey) sickness hit me about 1.5 hours into a 3 hour train ride and I only now (Monday, 10/7/13 at 11 AM) have made it out of our hotel room to see what Varanasi looks like. The now-hilarious story of the debacle that was our trip from the train to our next hotel room is something that can only be shared in intimate situations over some sort of libation. Not the internet.
Luckily, Jeremy didn't get sick until last night, so the timing was actually pretty good. He was able to get out and see some of Varanasi before he got sick.
We are both doing SO much better and we continue to move forward with our original plans as of right now. That includes flying to Katmandu tomorrow!
But first, we are going to take a boat trip down the Ganges tomorrow at dawn with our friends, Tom and Jennifer. We met them back in Jaisalmer, met up again in Pushkar, and again here in Varanasi. More photos to come in a couple days!
