At 3:05 am eastern US time (which is about 12:50 pm Nepal time) a 7.3 magnitude quake hit Nepal and was followed 30 minutes later with a 6.3 aftershock. The epicenter of these two quakes was about 80 km ENE of Kathmandu, in the Solukhumbu region.
Jeremy reports that he is ok. He said that there was a little more damage in Kathmandu, but, due to the location of the epicenter, we are both seriously concerned about our friends and the villages in the Solukhumbu (the Everest region).
He will try to contact me shortly, but informs me that the phone lines are jammed up. I will update again as soon as I hear from him.
