6 year wedding anniversary

As promised, today was overcast and rainy all day.  The perfect day to bump around in a beautiful Swiss village.  We started off with cafe treats before exploring the town of Lauterbrunnen on foot.  We then ate our leftovers at the hostel for lunch and went for a short hike in the rain halfway up the Wengen trail.  We tried to explore the trail to Steinhalten, but we were turned away by the steady, soaking rain.

Of course, we still had amazing views and interesting sights to see.  Nobody was base-jumping today, but we did watch a group of mischievous kayakers paddle down a stone water canal.  It was all pretty entertaining in a "slow day" kind of way.  And, of course, the perfectly manicured Swiss gardens are impressive in any conditions.  Tomorrow we make the transition to Italy and the wonders of Tuscany.

A note on our beloved Kitty:
Today was our wedding anniversary and we celebrated it with a dinner out at the Hotel Oberland.  We had a fantastic meal, but at the end, without warning, my face just fell.  Jeremy noticed immediately and asked me what was wrong; "Kitty" was my reply.

We started dating in April of 2001.  By October of 2001 we were fostering a sweet black cat we called "Kitty" (because we didn't expect to fall so madly in love with her and become her new parents).  She is Jeremy's first cat and has been a part of our relationship since the beginning.  My face fell after dinner tonight because the thought of how different things will be when we come home and she's no longer with us popped into my head.  She's our baby girl.  Her purr was the first cat purr Jeremy has ever heard!  She was my comfort during Grad school and my loyal companion during many hard times.  She is very special to both of us.

She is currently alive back home, but we know her time has come and she will be sorely missed.  Please keep her in your thoughts as she nears her time of passing on from this world.  If you want to share some favorite Kitty memories (i.e. what would Kit do for a Klondike bar?), please feel free to use the comments section of this blog post.

Love and blessings to all of you!
