Hey everybody!
We just finished up a couple of grueling days of hiking. Our bodies do NOT carry heavy packs like they used to! I have some old creaky knees and Jeremy got a couple pressure blisters and we both have some sore feet. But, as you can tell from the photos, we have been well rewarded for our efforts and our trials have not diminished our enjoyment of this trip one bit.
We are not exactly sure how long each hike has been, but based on our guide book we're at least doing 20 to 22 km a day. Our highest hike was to 7516 ft through the Surenenpass after starting the hike in Brüsti (at 5003 ft) and finishing in Engelberg (at 3287 ft). We caught a train to Meiringen for the night and hiked our way to Grindelwald yesterday. That hike we started in Kaltenbrunnen (at 3970 ft), passed through the Grosse Scheidegg (at 6436 ft) and finished in Grindelwald (at 3392 ft).
We must have looked pretty tired and beat up, because another couple staying at our hotel kindly offered to give us a ride to Lauterbrunnen, which we gratefully took them up on! We got to Lauterbrunnen early and did a quick hike from the valley (at 2615 ft) to Wengen (at 4186 ft).
Jeremy made an excellent dinner tonight and our hostel room (aka closet) has a spectacular view to the East and South. Tonight we fall asleep to the sound of the river and tomorrow we rub elbows with some giants. Life is definitely good!!
Love you all!!
Almost to the top of the Surenenpass.
Rewarding view coming down from the Grosse Scheidegg.
Feeling great hiking down from Wengen without our packs on.
A panorama view from our hostel balcony in Lauterbrunnen.
